Flag books







The Flag book structure is an accordion folded spine, with rows of flags attached to opposing sides. The flags allow the artist to layer and create imagery and narratives on them. To read the flag book, the viewer sees disjointed fragments of the imagery or text involved.
The flag book was originally developed by Hedi Kyle.
They are effective as they have different ways of viewing access which is interesting and are also very realistic in the sense that they are 3D.

Tunnel books

 
 
Tunnel books (also called peepshow books) consist of a set of pages bound with two folded concertina strips on each side and viewed through a hole in the cover. They involve openings in each page allowing the viewer of the book to see all the way through to the back. The imagery works together to gradually create the scene.
The tunnel book was founded in the mid-18th century. Its creation was inspired by theatrical stage sets, which we can see resemblance from. They were commonly created to commemorate special events or sold as souvenirs of tourists attractions.

New Trend Visions

Here I will be merging together different trends and subcultures to create a new trend vision. I will be explaining and analysing them, talking about the aspects which could be suitable merged.

  This new trend vision is a mix of the subculture Glam Rock and the trend vintage/retro, which put together creates: Glamtro. I decided to put these two together as they are complete opposites and will therefore contrast well. Glam Rock consists of all things glittery, sparkly and textured whereas vintage can be quite plain and bland. I believe mixing these opposites would create a trend popular to all types of people and something never that has never been seen before.



This new trend vision is a merge of the subcultures Punks and Mods, which makes up: Pod. I chose to put these together involving the leather aspect of the punk and the pattern and aesthetic aspect of the mod, perhaps ending up with designs interpreting checked and striped leather. This trend would be perfectly suited to people of the younger/early adult generation with a slight quirk in their style, both male and female.


This new trend vision is a mix of the 60s subculture Hippies and very current trend of Metallic's in 2014. These are merged to create the name: Hiplics. The aspects coming from the hippy part of the trend will be the traditional patterns which are very psychedelic. The aspect coming from the metallic side of the trend will be the colour and textured shine. For example a poker dot pattern filled in with the colours of silver and gold. This trend would be appropriate for the summer season due to pattern and design but also suited for the winter and festive season due to the rich and expensive colours used.

Mannequin analysis

Below I will be analysing mannequin designs in current window displays. I will be talking about the body language suggested, the clothing they are dressed in and weather or not they appear realistic to reality.

 
The body language in both these mannequins portrays massive confident and outgoing personality.  Their poses are over exaggerated and unnatural through positioning of their arms and legs. The clothing they are dressed in follows up from their body language as it is also very extravagant. These outfits are quirky and of a required taste. The wigs worn also emphasis this aesthetic. The fashion being promoted could be suited to the summer season as they are bright and exciting. I personally think the mannequin designs are quite abstract in the sense that they are not aimed to be replicons of real life figures of fashion.
 
 
The body language shown in this window display is very dramatic. It seems as though the store have aimed to tell a story through the body language of the mannequins. To me their positioning could possibly suggest tragedy or loss. The clothing the mannequins are wearing is quite bland and dull. There is no stand out significance to the outfits, however they have a look of expense about them. A store involving these mannequins could perhaps be All Saints as they have a mystery appeal about them, much like the mood of the store All Saints. I believe the mannequins overall are quite abstract in their body language and situation.
 
 
The body language is very sharp and strict. The mannequins appear fierce and serious because of this. A sign of this is that the mannequins are looking straight to the side instead of in our main view, facing the front.  The dresses they are wearing are eccentric and bold. They are certainly not your everyday, work dress. The dresses have been highlighted in volume by the electric fans. Again the mannequins are rather abstract, through both expression and body language.
 
 
The body language from all mannequins in this window display is pretty normal. Their shoulder are quite thought out and high, however this is still a natural pose. The clothing being promoted implies a theme of mythical and fantasy through the psychedelic patterns and deep, autumn colours. A store suited to these mannequins could be H&M, as these mannequins are emphasising classic but fun fashion. I think these mannequin designs are very realistic to reality figures.
