Tim Walker- Storyteller

Below will be a list of videos of Tim Walkers art in storytelling. I am going to comment on my interpretations of the themes and purposes shown in them.

Tim Walker and Mulberry's- Night at the Museum.
The background music in this clip, to me, creates a very mysterious and airy feeling. It makes you alert of the next unexpected imagery you are about to see. I believe the most significant theme is contrast and contradictory. This is through the sudden emerge from harsh to soft imagery and deep to peaceful music. The images before the change are creepy and slightly frightening then they turn into all things pretty and graceful: the delicate girl and the swan. Another theme could be surprise. As it was a surprise twist in the story, for things to get better instead of worse. The purpose of this clip is a positive. In my opinion it is a story not to be scared and warned of the unexpected like we hear people say but to be excited of the unexpected.

Tim Walkers- Fashion story, mechanical dolls (videos for vogue)
Again this is a very mysterious video through sound and imagery. A theme I can recognise is childhood vs. reality. I see this due to the repeated dolls which make you think of a childhood toy, however the dolls are interpreted into a scare factor through makeup and movement. Maybe this is the reality? I think the purpose of this video and photo shoot is to over ride expectations. Whether that good or bad we have created a stereotype that china dolls are pretty, girly things and have their use set in a little girls bedroom.

Tim Walker- Gilt trip
From these clips I have gathered that Walker has a reoccurring interest for the creation of mysterious. A main theme in this is fantasy. Fantasy through people, expressions, feelings and background imagery. Movement is almost 'beautifully awkward'. The purpose of this clip could be to portray happiness in different forms. This is as the video isn't typical or traditional however it leaves you feeling comforted.
